A key factor in Germany’s energy transition is the transfer of electricity from the wind-rich north to the industrial south of the country. But a lack of power transmission lines is proving a massive bottleneck.

What’s holding it up? Mostly terminally stupid NIMBYs.
They don’t want “those horrible, ugly windmills” disfiguring their “beautiful countryside”. On the other hand, they don’t want the necessary power lines to bring the power they need from other areas that have those windmills.
But guess the screaming we would hear when they would run out of electricity because the existing network could not deliver sufficient power…
