At first I was surprised an American pope was picked. Especially with what we’re going through right now. After hearing about Leo and thinking about it more, I think that what we’re going through is exactly why an American was chosen. He has had to deal with these sorts of things (the crazy MAGA brother). He knows the rhetoric and will hopefully push back against it.
I mean, the Catholic Church isn’t known for reacting quickly…
The majority of Catholics now live in South America and Africa. They had a pretty good hold on the US, but were already losing it before trump. Now that trump is grabbing hold of all Christian voters and they listen to him more than religious leaders…
They’re definitely feeling the pressure to fight back
It’s not like they’re fighting trump because it’s what Jesus would do, they’re fighting trump over his supporter’s loyalty.
