    California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat and former mayor of San Francisco, has repeatedly urged cities to ban encampments. Arrests for illegal lodging have soared in San Francisco, and its current mayor, Daniel Lurie, has reiterated that it is not appropriate for people to live outdoors.

    No fucking shit it’s not appropriate…

    But there’s reasons why people wouldn’t go into shelters.

    They may have a drug alcohol condition, they may fear violence in the shelter, they may have a pet, or even children/families would need to be split up

    We need to be finding out why people aren’t taking shelter, and then working to address their concerns so they’re willing to take it

    Not throwing them in jail because they said no for whatever reason.
